Today is the official start date of the Melbourne Food & Wine Festival! Now running for over 25 years, this iconic festival brings together over 300 events across the state to celebrate and shine a light on Melbourne as a world-class gastronomic destination.
Every March food and wine lovers indulge in bespoke events created specifically for the festival. This year some of our venues were chosen to be a part of this incredible event which provides a wonderful opportunity to showcase our innovative chefs and the local produce they use every day within our restaurants.
Don’t miss out on experiencing the special events our venues have to offer during the Melbourne Food & Wine Festival.
Saturday 17th March
As part of the festival, The Auburn Hotel is holding an End of Summer Picnic in their famous beer garden.
Send off summer with a long lunch in Auburn Village’s best beer garden. We’re partnering with local suppliers to create gourmet picnic baskets for two, four and six to share, with matched Victorian wine. One long, communal picnic table will bring everyone together over a picnic feast.
The gourmet picnic baskets will be overflowing with locally sourced picnic favourites such as charcuterie, olives and cheese.
Saturday 17th March
Melbourne’s oldest gastropub takes guests on a tour of the Yarra Valley with their special event “A Taste of Yarra Valley: Cooking Class & Long Lunch”.
The cooking class with O’Connell’s Head Chef Tom Brockbank has already sold out, however, there are still some spots left to experience the five-cheese tasting with a cheesemaker from Yarra Valley Dairy. Yarra Valley Diary will share their knowledge of their cheeses and the region during the tasting which includes a brand new cheese, which has yet to be released to the market.
Following the tasting join the entire group for a long lunch with matched Victorian wines. Suppliers whose ingredients are featured in each course will tell you about their product.
Saturday 24th March
Join the Crafty Squire for a five-course dining and beer experience celebrating the life of James Squire. With a special focus on local Melbourne producers and native ingredients, journey through his life with food and beer.
The life of a swindler, a baker, a brewer, a butcher, a constable and a dirty rotten scoundrel – this is the story of a life well lived. A pillar of his community in life and a brewing legend in death, meet James Squire. With seven professions, 11 children and a brewing legacy that’s lasted 150 years, James’ life make for one great story. One that’s best told with food and beer of course.
